Woody Allen famously said, “If you want to make God laugh, tell him about your plans”.
From an early age, we are taught that if we ‘fail to plan, then we plan to fail’. So many aspects of our society encourage us to take control of our life by gaining knowledge and skills so we can achieve respected qualifications, get a well-paid job, buy a big house and a nice car, find the perfect partner, start a family and so on…
In other words, we are taught to control our journey and create the ‘perfect life’ for ourselves.
But so often, things just don’t work out despite our best laid plans, and in-depth thinking. When progress veers off course we get frustrated, fearful and disappointed with the cards that life has dealt us.
But what if you were able to plan everything completely, down to the last minute detail, and everything, absolutely everything, turned out exactly as you wanted?
Can you imagine what your life would look like? Does that sound like a wonderful concept to you?
On a materialistic level, life working out like this might sound like heaven with the perfect partner, the perfect career, the perfect house, the perfect body, and no troubles whatsoever.
But that’s not how life on Earth is meant to work.
Firstly, we are not material beings.
Just because everything in life works out, it doesn’t guarantee happiness. How often have you heard of billionaires being desperately unhappy despite their riches?
Gradually, our world is waking up to the fact that life is not just some improbable accident of atoms and molecules that have somehow come together to make our bodies, brains and consciousness.
Our core essence is of spirit.
We are a spiritual being having a 3D material experience, and the challenges in life are not random accidents. They come along to give us the chance to grow spiritually.
So it’s okay to be surprised by what life throws at us, because then we have the opportunity to adapt, grow, heal past wounds and evolve into an ever brighter, ever more magnificent and loving being.
Our goal is to express the love that is our core essence in more and more ways, and to enjoy the journey and learn about who we are in the process.
Of course, we can try to control our lives, and if this is how you feel you need to live then that’s absolutely fine. You’re still learning about yourself and experiencing a completely valid way of living and expressing yourself.
However, don’t be surprised when disappointment, worries about the future, sadness and feelings of failure result from living life by this controlling, rational, and thought dominated approach.
Alternatively, we can live in the ‘now moment’ and let life flow towards us and around us with acceptance, joy, wonder and excitement.
The challenge of life is to live each moment as a new discovery, a new puzzle, having faith that the guidance and resources which you require will come to you as you travel your journey, not by the anticipation (and inevitable worry) of trying to plan them in advance.
Each one of us is the captain of our own ship and of our spiritual team which includes our guides and angels who are with us every second of every day (whether we believe it or not).
However, they will not tell us which way to go. That’s our call.
We are in charge of setting the sail of our journey and choosing how we want to express our divine nature.
So how do we choose our direction in life?
It is the heart, not the mind, that is your wisest counsel when it comes to setting the direction.
Let your heart speak to you through your feelings. Does a certain direction feel like it will be a joyful experience? Does the thought of it make your heart flutter in excitement? Then that direction will be a wise choice for you.
Once you have an idea of which direction will bring you more joy, more wonder, and more lightness, then your mind can help you to set your sail and take the first practical steps.
Trust your heart as the master navigator for plotting your course. Then use your mind - the crew of your ship - to work out those instructions and get your ship sailing across the high seas.
Enjoy the journey and each ‘now moment’. Trust that it will work out and that you will receive all the help and guidance you need along the way.

The Way Is Through The Heart,
Focus on being,
It’s a heart energy of allowing and letting go,
Allow your heart to lead the way.
It’s not a mental focus - where the mind is in control,
No! It’s a heart focus where the heart leads the way, using intuition.
Trust yourself. Trust your heart and shine your luminous presence,
You are not alone. You are loved and very precious,
Trust that all is well. It is as it should be.
We love you and support you and bless you,
The Way is through the Heart.
