Healing Past Trauma

Healing past trauma...

...is easier than you think

We all have challenges in our life, and some of these experiences leave their mark on us, only to reappear in later life in some form, usually when we're least expecting it.

In reality, our initial reaction to these difficult events led us to create beliefs which we put in place to protect ourselves. Although useful at the time, these beliefs often become unhelpful, resulting in unwanted physical, mental and emotional problems such as depression, anxiety and heart problems, to name but a few.

Some of these traumas are so significant that we end up suppressing them from our conscious awareness. However, we still experience their symptoms without realising their root cause.

So how can we heal past trauma? The first step is to become aware that we have it in the first place.

Awareness

Being emotionally 'triggered' by some event or person is usually a big clue that some past event is still having an effect on us. It is said that how we react to other people is often a mirror to our own condition.

Our dreams will also tell us about past trauma, but only when we're able to deal with the issue, and of course, the secret language of dreams will need to be translated. Recurring dreams are like a warning light on our car dashboard and should be dealt with as soon as possible.

Physical and mental illness or dis-ease are also important signposts that point back to past trauma. The work of Louise Hay is particularly useful for uncovering the root causes of these symptoms.

Healing

Once we become aware that past trauma is affecting us negatively in some way, then we are in a position to start the healing process. This is true even if we don't know the full story because we have pushed the trauma deep into our subconscious mind.

But when it comes to actually healing what we need to heal, what are our options?

These days, we're spoilt for choice! There are many effective holistic therapies available that will help to reprogramme our negative beliefs, dissociate the original trauma from our emotional response, and ultimately heal our energetic 'wounds'.

An effective approach with a track record of over 20 years is the Tapas Acupressure Technique, a type of energy psychology therapy developed by Tapas Fleming

I particularly like this approach because we don't need to relive the traumatic experience itself, the process is easy to do, and positive results can often be experienced from just a few sessions.

Here is a 20-minute healing meditation which takes you through the TAT process for whatever issue you want to work on.

To be most effective, it is always advisable to work under the guidance of a trained therapist. However, this video will enable you to work through the basic steps and get you started on your healing journey.

I'd love to hear your feedback and your experience with this meditation and healing approach. Please feel free to leave a comment below.
